Tour description

Superb single tracks and impressive Zügenschlucht gorge.

The route leads from Davos along the Mattastrasse into the Mattawald forest. A road through the forest leads to Clavadel and then up to Heidboden and Junkerboden. From there you ride along a track, a single track in parts, to Spina and the Walser village of Monstein.
From there the route leads in the direction of the old silver mines, first along a wide forest trail then on a technically demanding section to Jenisberg. Parts of the trail are exposed and, after a hard winter, can be blocked by avalanche cones meaning that bikes have to be carried. The trail branches off to the right before Jenisberg and takes you on an exciting downhill run into the Zügenschlucht gorge.
The route then leads along the old Zügenstrasse to Wiesen station. The best panoramic view of the gorge is from the Bärentritte (short flight of steps).
After a short descent to Wiesen station, a steep ascent begins via Wiesen to the old Zügenweg. Now you again ride alongside the edge of the gorge on the opposite side of the valley. Part of this single track also leads over terrain with extremely sheer drops and is only pure pleasure for skilled bikers.
After a short descent you finally reach Davos Glaris from where you return to Davos via Lengmatta Frauenkirch, on side roads and also along a cycle path.

Places along the route: Davos - Mattawald - Clavadel - Heidboden - Junkerboden - Spina - Monstein - Jenisberg - Zügenschlucht gorge - Bärentritt - Wiesen stn. - Wiesen - Wiesner Berg - Alter Zügenweg - Glaris - Davos
