On the best surface and always a bit downhill, along the picturesque Töss: The skating and biking trail between Bauma and Kollbrunn is one of the best and most attractive in the country.
Rollerblades can be used nearly everywhere. But he who wishes to skate fast and undisturbed for a long time has to choose his route carefully. Stones along the edge, steep ramps, uncleaned or coarse surfaces have brought many skaters painful bruises and scrapes. In this area there are three routes especially popular with skaters: the little traveled back roads along the Linth and the biking and skating paths around the Greifensee and along the Töss.
The picturesque route along the Töss is always slightly downhill. It can be traveled a shorter or longer distance, as there is always a railway station where one can catch the S26.
We start at the Bauma railway station and skate carefully along the sidewalk of the main road to Sennhüttenstrasse. There one turns right and then crosses the Töss. After 500 meters of skating along the river, one goes uphill for a short distance, the last real climb on this route to Kollbrunn. Following the red route signs, one passes through a residential area and then arrives at a small road that takes one back to the banks of the Töss. A bit later, one goes through Saland and by the Au pond. After the bridge comes the best part of the route. On the very best asphalt one glides along the Töss in a wooded area. If you’d like to rest a bit after this short stretch, you’ll find lovely gravel banks and places to swim.
Then it’s on to Wila, where you cross the river and pass under the railway and the Tösstalstrasse. You’ll then arrive in Turbenthal. Finding your way is simple: just follow the red route signs. The last part of the route also runs directly along the Töss. Because it is always slightly downhill, one can easily get up to speeds of 30 mph. Now it is only an hour to the Kollbrunn railway station and on to the local train back to Bauma.
