The path that connects the Alpine settlements of Tewald and Oberi Brend offers hikers a pleasant and mostly flat walk through the beautiful Arven and Föhren woods that lie between Saas-Grund and Saas-Balen. This tour has to be combined with other trails (e.g. with the Scenic Trail and/or the Heimischgartu Trail). The path runs below and parallel to the Gspon High-Altitude Trail and visits the pretty Alpine settlements of Tewald and Oberi Brend. There are a few boulders at Tewald that offer good climbing opportunities as well as several spots for barbecues. Shortly after the mid-point of the trail, hikers arrive at a large rock with a cross on top known as the Guppistein. Climbing the Guppistein is a fun challenge, but those who attempt it should do so with caution. A large portion of the woodland between the two villages is also a recognised protected wildlife area and should therefore be treated with respect. To show their appreciation, some of the local animals might just emerge from the trees to pose for a few photographs.
From Tewald, which can be easily reached from the middle station of the first section of the Hohsaas Bergbahnen, the path heads north past Laubinubodme. The beautiful woodland path then continues on, crossing the forest aisle of Teiffe Grabu just before reaching its destination – Oberi Brend. From here, there are several options. The paths down to Saas-Grund and Saas-Balen are clearly signposted from Oberi Brend (make sure you plan enough time for the descent). Alternatively, hikers can continue on to the Heimischgartu Trail or the Gspon High-Altitude Trail.
