You start at the beginning of Via Gesero (250 m above sea level), in front of the u-turn of the bus from Viale Moesa (Polveriera). You climb Via Gesero and the first part of Via alle Cascine than you turn left to the top of the rise, you pass the barrier and get onto the forest path which climb at once into the forest. The path climb steep and virtually always shady and at km 3,5 you’ll get to a short tunnel badly illuminated (ca. 600 m above sea level), You continue without a detour, only
the one for the Monti di Cò, where you have to turn left. At km 13 you find the alpe della Costa
(1600 m above sea level) and the road get a track (the last 2,5 km ca.). You pass the alpe del Gesero at 1700 m above sea level and at last arrive at the hut Gesero at 1774 m above sea level.
The Valley of Arbedo is known for the willows with the same name, the important forest
and first of all for the horrible landslide of Motto d’Arbino which in october 1928 shaked the Valley destroying hectares of forest, cottages and houses and formed a natural dam wall which became the origin of the lake of Orbello which can be admired by going down for a walk at the bend at km 5,5 of the trail.
The climb ist the hardest of Ticino and one of the most demanding of Switzerland because of the length, 15.7 km, of the great difference in altitude (1524 m) and of the average of slop of 9,7 % with stages above 13 %.
