The best way to reach the point of departure on Bussalp is by Grindelwald Bus (bikes transported on reservation). The following footpath at 1600 metres altitude constitutes a wonderful, easy and varied walk for both young and old and is also suitable for mountain bikes. The path leads past Alpine huts and through clearings in the woods a fantastic panorama opens up on the entire stretch. It’s well worth having a break at the “Schweizer Familie picnic site” by the old Mälchhysi (slightly above the footpath).
Route A: Bort – Unter Lauchbühl
Easy, slightly undulating footpath leading to Unteren Lauchbühl (bus stop on the Grosse Scheidegg – Grindelwald bus route). This walk is suitable for all age groups and is ideal on slightly rainy days (additional time: 1 hr 50 min / additional climb: approx. 100 m). The Alpine Aviary is situated below Unteren Lauchbühl. Experienced mountain bikers are also welcome on this route. These are recommended to continue to Grindelwald via the Hotel Wetterhorn.
Route B: From Bort a tarmac road leads down to Grindelwald via Schwarzigenhäusern and Mühlebach (walking time: 1 hr 10 min / distance: 5 km). This is also the route to Grindelwald taken by the trottibikes (trottibikes can be hired at Bort intermediate station).
Route C: This walk leads from Bort past the Bortsee (artificial lake) and steeply downwards to just before Oberhaus, where one turns right into the woods. From the forestry track (on which mountain bikers continue down to Grindelwald / distance: 7 km) a footpath turns off towards Aellfluh restaurant (approx. 30 min). The exciting surroundings of the cosy restaurant offer children a mini via ferrata, various different games and playground to let off steam.
