Tour description

An easy tour of the peninsular dell’Arbostora, with superb views of the Lake of Lugano.

We leave from Carona and pass Alpe Vicania, the chapel of Madonna d’Ongero, and Ciona, before returning to Carona. The entire tour is mostly on very easy paths. Wonderful new views appear constantly during the tour, so we can admire the Lake of Lugano from different directions.

Highlights:

Carona
Church and convent of Santa Maria di Torello, Roman building with fragments of frescoes from XIII, private property
Sanctuary of the Madonna d’Ongero, constructed in XVII, decorations and plasterwork by A. Casella, frescoes by G. Petrini
Parish Churhc of San Giorgio, constructed in XVI, with bell tower from XVII, frescoes in the choir stalls by D. Pezzi («The Day of Judgement»)
Botanical gardens San Grato, with an area of 62,000 m; precious collection of azaleas, rhododendrons and conifers, 5 themed walks (botanic, relaxation, panoramic, artistic and fables) with learning panels

Note(s)

Period advised: january - december

Please note: In autumn, woodland footpaths can be covered with large quantities of vegetation.
