In the early 20 century, the imposing Villa Cassel on the Riederfurka was the glamorous summer residence of the Englishman Sir Ernest Cassel and his selected guests from nobility and high finance. The topic path Casselweg gives you an impression of the life of the British banker and tells anecdotes from the time when the members of the English upper class spend their summer holidays on the Riederfurka.
Starting and end point of the circular trail that takes you around the Riederhorn in just under an hour is the Villa Cassel. There are but few inclines that have to be overcome along the easy trail, however, some parts of the trail are somewhat exposed. But the Casselweg not only offers relaxed hiking and magnificent views of the range of the four thousand metre high peaks of Valais and the Great Aletsch Glacier. The information boards that are put up along the trail between mid June and mid October give you the chance to learn more about the life of Sir Ernest Cassel and his noble guests. A visit of the Alpine garden and the Villa Cassel is also recommended, which today houses the Pro Natura Centre Aletsch with its interesting exhibitions.
The path is a little exposed at certain points.
