From Broc to Montbovon, a land of bridges:
Nestling in the mountains, surrounded by pastures and forests as it follows the course of the Sarine, the valley of Intyamon is fully deserving its patois name: between the mountains!
Starting from Broc, this walk allows you to appreciate the generous nature and untamed character of this part of the country.
In addition, your route will be enhanced by an incredible rosary of bridges over the Sarine: in Broc, the stone humpback bridge (1580), guarded by the «Château-d'en-Bas», was clad with a cast-iron roadway before miraculously regaining its original form in 1971. Below Gruyères, the «Rickety Bridge», covered and closed (1806), has not been rickety anymore since its restoration between 1982 and 1983. In Villars-sous-Mont, the bridge’s elegant arch has stood firm since 1641 against the occasional torrents that in bygone times destroyed such structures. And in Lessoc, the only bridge not to have undergone any modifications since 1667 exerts an almost palpable magic. In olden days mule caravans crossed this bridge devoted entirely to Gruyère cheese-making, along the «Chemin de Jaman», the handy and practicable old route to the South and its promise of a better life. The venerable bridge leads us to the market square of Vevey and its port, the destination of the makers of this delightful cheese.
