Their name sounds like «hell» in German, but that’s not where you’re going. First an easy walk along the banks of the River Lorze as a warm-up. You cross two imposing bridges that connect valley and hill and glimpse the Wildenburg ruins, an insider tip, over the three bridges: giving some idea how important it once was. Soon we reach the entrance to the Höll caves where you will discover many impressive stalagmites and stalactites in the mystic Höll Grotto, and be enchanted by this fairytale world underground. Back to earth, there are numerous barbecue areas right by the river where you can relax and enjoy the surroundings.
From Schmittli bus stop – left side of road direction Zug – left down the gravel road – alongside the River Lorze – approx. 500m before the roundabout turn left direction Baar railway station (not along the main road) – Baar Station
Places of interest:
- Visit of the Höll Caves
- Barbecue and paddling by the Lorze
- Lättich Swimming Pool (signposted at the rondabout)
- Restaurant Schmidtli in Neuägeri
- Restaurant Höllgrotten
- Baar Brewery
Variation A: Diversion to the Wildenburg (after the wooden bridge up left).
Good walking shoes necessary: weatherproof clothing for the caves an advantage.
