Along this 1.4 km circular route starting at Hohsaas (3,300 m a.s.l.), hikers can admire the 18 magnificent 4,000-metre peaks that surround the Saas Valley both in real life and in the depictions on the information boards along the way. These boards outline various features of the summits and cover historical milestones such as first ascents, etc. The trail also features the “Wunsch-Steinmann” wishing cairn, the Saas Valley’s answer to the Trevi Fountain in Rome. Here, hikers can make a wish by placing a stone on the existing cairn, and the wish may well come true after a gentle hike and some meaningful contemplation. The trail also features information on the glaciers, flora and fauna of the Alps and the Saas Valley.
This circular route starts above the Hohsaas mountain station and is easily accessible. Trekking routes that take in the Lagginhorn, the Weissmies or the Fletschhorn also start from the Weissmies Hut, which is located a little further down the valley, and from the hut on Hohsaas. It is possible to book exciting tours of the Trift glacier with local mountain guides.
Pay attention to the cableway timetable.
Make sure you plan enough time for the hike and be sure to wear sturdy walking shoes and good outdoor clothing.
Glaciers are dangerous and should only be explored in the company of qualified individuals or mountain guides. Do not hike unaccompanied.
