The tour takes you along the old route of the Senda Sursilvana. This popular walk includes all degrees of difficulties, which make hiking in the mountains interesting, varied and near to nature. The route of the Senda Sursilvana is marked throughout with «SENDA SURSILVANA» on the official yellow walking sings of the BAW. With help of the GPS and sections of the map of Geo-Tracks you will find the different objects.
From Trun the path continues to Cartatscha to the Val Sinzera, where you cross the stream Sinzera on a footbridge. The path continues up a hill until the forest, where you reach the village Schlans by a wide path. Here you have to decide if you want to take the official, asphalted, less exhausting path to Breil/Brigels or if you prefer to take the path leading you to Pradas, Preuls, Plaund da Lenna to Breil /Brigels which is strenuous at the beginning. In Breil/Brigels you will return to the route of the Senda Sursilvana.
Section Schlans – Breil/Brigels
The part until Dardin of the section Schlans – Breil/Brigels is asphalted and not very popular with hikers.
From Schlans the path descends slightly to Dardin. You will pass the hamlets Capeder, Gliz, Capre by the church Dardin and Casu. At the border of Casu you will cross the road leading to Breil/Brigels and will reach the houses of Mulin in the Val Cuschina. On the old road to Breil/Brigels you will walk through a deciduous forest. Under the road to the «Gadenstätten» of Vischnaus the path continuously ascends and passes the first few houses, reaching the village center at the Sentupada Communala.
Section Breil/Brigels – Waltensburg/Vuorz
From «Sentupada Communala» walk to the east to the Crest Tschuppina to the plateau of Tschuppina in direction of the military area. The military facilities constructed by the archictects Häusler and Cathomen can hardly be seen. They are hidden under an earth hill; the green and saturated grass grows right up the sturdy retaining wall, which is at the same time the façade. Right next to it is the golf course designed by the architect Mario Verdieri. The facilities include a Clubhouse with secretariate, restaurant and shop as well as partially covered Driving-Range.
At the crossing, right by the fountain, the sign shows you that you have the footpath on the right. Along the meadows you will reach the border of the forest. In the middle of the forest, turn to the left by the sign. To the right the sign post marks to Adlerstein (viewpoint), about 10 minutes. There you will reach the road connecting Breil/Brigels and Waltensburg, above the castle ruin Grotta, from where you can get to the bus station Waltensburg.
Version A: In Schlans, take the road towards «Pradas da Schlans». This is no tarmac road. Follow the signs «Alp da Schlans», Putegliashütte and/or «Plaun da Plaids» – Breil/Brigels. The name Senda Sursilvana will not be marked. Arrived at the upper alp huts, the path leads you eastwards into the forest. You will arrive at the river constructions of the Val Plaunca. Cross the river and continue until Plaun da Plaids, a large mountain pasture with a picnic and fire place. The route continues on a good foot path to Plaun la Lenna and Plaun las Steilas, from about 1570 meters to 1287 meters to Breil/Brigels (additional altitude: 89m)
