See the highlights of the UNESCO World Heritage Site in a single tour: besides a hike through the protected Aletsch Forest, the main attraction of this route is the magnificent view of the Great Aletsch Glacier.
The first section of the route leads from Bettmeralp up to the Bettmersee lake and along the western shore until the turnoff towards Gopplerlücke. From there, the trail ascends via Riederalp to Riederfurka, where a visit to the Pro Natura Centre Aletsch is highly recommended as a rewarding and informative break in the hike. Armed with knowledge about the Aletsch Forest and UNESCO World Heritage Site, head off from Riederfurka on the hike through the protected forest with its centuries-old Swiss stone pines. After hiking for about 30 minutes through the pine forest you'll be able to enjoy a view of the impressive Great Aletsch Glacier. The trail continues past beautiful old woodlands and via the Alte Stafel towards Biel. Here you cross over to the other side of the mountain ridge once again before taking on the last stage of this spectacular hike: the descent to the Bettmersee lake and Bettmeralp.
