Set in the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, this intermediate route not only lets you explore the natural beauty of the Aletsch Forest but also passes close by the Great Aletsch Glacier.
The route runs up from Riederalp to Riederfurka, where the Pro Natura Centre Aletsch is housed in the imposing Villa Cassel. From Riederfurka, the hike continues through the protected Aletsch Forest with its ancient pine trees towards Silbersand and Chalchofu. Here, hikers can admire a disused lime kiln from a bygone age among the landscape. With the mighty Great Aletsch Glacier always in sight, continue towards Chatzulecher – moving closer to the giant ice stream with every step. The way back leads via Alte Stafel and the idyllic Blausee lake to Riederalp.
This trail passes through a geologically unstable area. Please enquire before you set off whether all paths on your planned route are currently open.
