In summer, the Euschelpass is a popular destination for cyclists and hikers. In winter, it is transformed into a leisurely snowshoe trail, offering stunning views of the south face of the Gastlosen.
The Euschelpass links Schwarzsee to Jaun, the only German-speaking village in the Gruyère district. Jaun’s territory also extends to the eastern side of Schwarzsee, a handful of houses in Gypsera, as well as the Riggisalp and the top of the Kaiseregg.
Schwarzsee is a gem of a resort. In winter, it is great for a spot of tobogganing, ski mountaineering, snowshoeing, and even a leisurely stroll round the lake. It was the municipality of Plaffeien which built the first access road to Schwarzsee so as to facilitate the transport of plaster from the gypsum mill to the far end of the lake. This is where the name “Gypsera” comes from.
You can snowshoe this trail in either direction.
Take particular care on the slopes of the Chörblispitz due to the risk of avalanches.
