This wonderful circular hike to St. Anne's Chapel and through the villages of the Lower Goms requires a certain level of fitness.
It starts by the valley station of the Fiesch cable car, where you should follow the Bregeraweg path until the sign for Bellwald. The trail runs uphill through gloriously shady forests towards St. Anne's Chapel and onwards across the meadows to Bellwald, the highest point of the hike. From the centre of the village, the route continues down through a larch forest to Niederwald. Shortly after Niederwald, cross the Rhone and hike down to Mühlebach via Steinhaus on relatively flat terrain on the other side of the valley. Mühlebach is certainly worth a tour as it boasts the oldest village centre in Switzerland where the buildings are all made of wood. After a detour to the gallows where criminals were once hanged and a visit to the old mill, the hike continues to Ernen. The final stage of the trail follows the old mule track across the A¨rnerfeld down to the Rhone and back to Fiesch on the other side of the river.
