The Fürhörnli is the highest point of the city of Chur. Like a balcony it juts out into the abyss and offers a splendid pano-rama view on the Alpine City of Chur and the surrounding Rhine valley.
The tour starts in Chur, above of the Old town at the Arosa curve. Walk straight forward and steadily upwards, cross the forest road, that leads to Mittenberg and walk on the rear side of the Mittenberg up to the Ochsenberg. There, branch off to the left and continue hiking upwards, until the unremarkable Fürhörnli lies on the left side. The branch-off to the Fürhörnli is not marked, but the tracks left from the hiking route is well recognizable. Along the tree-covered ridge you reach the Fürhörnli in a few steps. Be careful on the small and exposed peak-balcony (accession only recom-mended for people free from giddiness).
If you still have some energy left, you can ascent on the steep trail to the peak of the Montalin (see variant A).
For descending, first follow the route of the ascent to the Ochsenberg. There branch-off to the left side and hike down to the Mittenberg, where you cross the meadow and continue the descent in direction of the St. Luzikappelle and Chur.
Variante A: From the Fürhörnli it takes only a short walk to the Alp Saldein. There begins the blue marked (alpine hiking trail) to the Montalin. The ascent is very steep in this section, but it shouldn't be a problem for experienced and well equiped moun-tain hikers. The effort is well-worth it, from the Montalin peak you can enjoy an extraordinary 360° panorama view into the Rhine valley and the mountain valleys of Lenzerheide and Arosa with an impressive mountain scenery. Opposite of the Montalin stands proudly the Calanda mountain. At the mountainside in direction of the Rhine valley, often alpine ibex can be spotted. If you are lucky, you will catch a glimpse on the heraldic animal of Graubünden.
If you like to shorten the tour, you can take the Postbus from Chur to Maladers and start your tour there (or you can shorten the tour on the way back and take the Postbus from Maladers to Chur).
