Ilanz – Rhine gorge.
The comparison is weak: Whereas the Grand Canyon is up to 1800 meters deep, the alpine Rhine cut himself in just about 400 meters in depth between Ilanz and Bonaduz. Still the «Grand Canyon of Switzerland» is a spektacualr and scenical especially impressive place, which has an excellent reputation for canoeing and river rafting beyond the country's frontier. The singletrail, which leads throug the Rhine gorge is far less known. In summer the tour is best on early mornings or late afternoons, since it does not get that hot and you avoid conflicts with hikers. Without dismounting you will not manage the gorge, even without oncoming traffic. Too steep are some of the short climbs, too
incoherent the underground at times. Generally the ride through the adventuresome gorge is an excellent interval training, because time and again there are short climbs «embedded». While you breathe deeply now and then you can marvel at the monumental Rhine gorge.
