This tour is perfect for days when the weather is not so great. It sets off in Saas-Balen, the smallest of the Saas Valley municipalities, and leads down the valley along the woodland path, before following the old Alpweg to Matt. The other entry point along the Alpweg is a little challenging because it was damaged when the woodland path was expanded. The trail then leads to Heimischgartu via Ze Gartu. From here, it continues on to Oberi Brend, Unneri Brend, Tewaldji, Bodme and finally Saas-Grund.
Alternative A: Between Unneri Brend and Oberi Brend, the trail turns in a southerly direction and leads across open land to the edge of the forest. It then continues through the forest at basically the same altitude before reaching Tewald. From there, you can follow the valley descent to the Trift middle station in a southerly direction and take the gondola lift back down the mountain.
The restaurant in Heimischgartu is closed in winter.
Make sure you factor in enough time and pay attention to the weather and snow conditions.
