The ascent to the Gafadura cabin runs mainly through a shady forest. Once at the Gafadura cabin (1428 m above sea level), we allow ourselves a rest and enjoy the tranquillity and the beautiful views.
We continue on the Drei Schwestern path and the Fürstensteig, which is considered an excellent, classic mountain hike in Liechtenstein. We will never forget the route for sure-footed hikers between the secured rock climbs. The bold and magnificent Drei Schwestern Steig (opened 1898) and the Fürstensteig are connected by a beautiful ridge path with ample views. The Kuhgrat (2123 m), the highest point of the first day’s hike, offers an excellent view of the Rätikon and of the Swiss and Vorarlberg mountains. Looking down at the villages along the Rhine to the Lake of Constance is unforgettable, as is the splendid flora. Via Silum we arrive in Steg, our destination for the first day, where the mountain guesthouse Sücka or the hotel and restaurant Steg offer overnight accommodation.
Tip for families: children should be tied to a rope whilst on the Fürstensteig, descend carefully on the narrow paths.
Option A: It is possible to leave out the Fürstensteig by taking easier paths and to shorten the hike (over Bärgällasattel)
Option B: Connecting route from Berggasthaus Sücka to Hotel Steg.
The 2-day-tour can also be undertaken in reverse sequence, starting in Malbun, which is physically less demanding.
A bus from Schaan to Planken can be taken. Get off the bus at the stop outside Hotel Saroja, or park cars at the water works in Planken.
