Fancy a gentle walk, but still want stunning views and maybe even catch a glimpse of a beaver in the wild? Then this is the trail for you. Highlights include the medieval town of Morat, a stunning view of Lake Morat and the Jura mountains, with the majestic Alps on the horizon, not to mention the Beaver Trail.
From Morat train station follow the signposts for Salvenach-Düdingen, across the level crossing to the east, and continue on until you reach the football pitch and the fork in the road. After crossing the street and heading left to the Prehlstrasse, go right and make the steep climb to the Erlemsburg farmhouse, offering a wonderful view of the historic town of Morat, Lake Morat, Mont Vully and the Jura mountains.
After the birchwood forest, a straight dirt track will take you to Salvenach. Walk along the village main street, then turn right past the traditional farmhouses and working bakehouse, until you reach the junction. From there, head left and follow the path which runs along the edge of the wood (viewpoint, picnic spot). View of Jeuss, Cressier, Gurmels and Fribourg. On a clear day, you will be able to see from the Stockhorn to the Moléson (panoramic map 100m on the right). Diagonally opposite on the left through a small stretch of wood up to the fork in the road at the cemetery outside Galmguet. Continuing along on the right, the path will take to Jeuss and further on to the Bibere river and its Beaver Trail. Off to the right follow the course of the Bibere river and the trail for around 6 km to Courtepin. At the roundabout, continue straight ahead to the golf course. Turn right on to the golf course and cross the green. This will take you towards Lake Morat. Carry on through the villages of Chandossel and Clavaleyres, over the motorway towards Greng. Here continue straight on until you reach the lake, then turn right towards Morat.
Alternative A: You can also walk from Morat to Courtepin. There are train services which will take you from Courtepin to Morat and Fribourg.
The trail can also be done on bike (duration: approx. 2.5 hrs).
