What was it like for mountain farmers, living in the valley in a village during the winter months and, as soon as summer arrived, moving up to the mountain pasture and the Alps with their livestock? Follow the culture discovery trail to find out.
Bettmeralp is the starting point of this leisurely hike. The culture discovery trail runs past wonderful Alpine meadows and the «Ried» and «Domo» mountain pastures to the village of Betten, a typical Valais settlement with black larch houses. On nine information boards along the beautiful trail, Aletscha and Aletschander, two local children, tell interesting tales about how life was back then, living between the village and the «alp», the Alpine pasture. A short tour of the idyllic village of Betten is a nice way to end the hike before riding the cable car back to Bettmeralp.
