The day hike starts at the mountain station Videmanette, leads around the Alp La Pierreuse and over four passes to L'Etivaz.
The Alp called La Pierreuse is situated in a wide valley basin. The valley is bordered to the West by Rocher du Midi, to the East by La Videmanette and Le Rubli and to the South by the white limestone rock faces of Gummfluh. A day hike with lots of vantage points for views starts at the mountain station Videmanette, leads around the Alp La Pierreuse and over four passes to L'Etivaz. There is a reason for the name: the Alp is as stony as the flanks of the surrounding mountains. Once, according to a legend, this Alp was particularly green and lush, but an avalanche destroyed it after a misdeed was perpetrated by a young cowherd. Today the Alp holds other treasures: La Pierreuse is the largest nature reserve of the Romandie and is a landscape of national importance with characteristic Pre-Alpine appearance: rocky regions, alpine meadows with a rich flora, flat marshes, fir trees, spruces and the occasional deciduous forest. Besides the varied alpine flora, the great variety of bird species is particularly remarkable. With a bit of luck and patience you will be able to observe golden eagles, falcons and black grouse.
