This itinerary takes you from the shores of Lake Maggiore all the way to Sonogno, a small and well preserved village at the end of the pristine Verzasca Valley. Starting in Locarno, follow the lakeside promenade through Muralto and Minusio, whose natural beaches are ideal for a refreshing swim. This first part is very easy and particularly suitable for children. Once in Tenero, take the main road until Gordola and then exit towards Valle Verzasca. Here the road climbs through the Gordola vineyards, past the impressive Verzasca dam (famous for bungee jumping from an altitude of 220 meters) and the magnificent Ponte dei Salti bridge in Lavertezzo, where you can admire the emerald-colored river. In addition to these places of interest, you will come across several picturesque villages that are worth a short stop. From Locarno to Tenero the itinerary follows the lake (closed to motorized traffic), whereas from Tenero it follows the main road. Technically quite easy but requires good physical condition.
Recommended period: April-October
Caution: the road of the Verzasca Valley is quite narrow. Between Tenero and Sonogno the itinerary follows interely the main cantonal road.
