The Aletsch half marathon is considered the most beautiful half marathon in Europe. Each year it attracts up to 2,500 mountain runners to the Aletsch Arena. However, the 21.2 km course is also an impressive hike with a total altitude difference of 1,050 m to overcome.
From the start in Bettmeralp (1,950 m), the route runs via the Bettmersee lake to Riederalp and up to Riederfurka. At this point, the hike becomes an impressive panorama trail: around the Riederhorn there is a fantastic, inspiring view across the Rhone Valley and the 4,000-metre peaks of Valais. The rest of the trail – from Riederfurka across the ridge up to Bettmerhorn (2,647 m) – is dominated by the magnificent view of the Great Aletsch Glacier, the largest glacier in the Alps.
