Tour description

The tour takes you along the old route of the Senda Sursilvana. This popular walk includes all degrees of difficulties, which make hiking in the mountains interesting, varied and near to nature. The route of the Senda Sursilvana is marked throughout with «SENDA SURSILVANA» on the official yellow walking signs of the BAW. With help of the GPS and sections of the map of GEO-Tracks you will find the different objects.

Section Disentis – Trun
The Senda Sursilvana starts at the train station in Disentis. The best way to return to the starting point is by train. From the train station the path leads you into the center of the village on the Oberalpstrasse and then direction Sumvitg. To the right the Via Cavadiras leads you to the Via dalla Stampa, which leads you in the direction of the train station to the community center of the AUA VIVA. The architects Toni Schneider and Sep Cathomen constructed two houses next to each other, respecting the biological and ecological principals.

Direction Sumvitg, after the railway line you will reach the health resort Disentiserhof, which is situated at the border of Disentis. In 1870 the hotel was built as a spa. In 1978 the hotel was replaced by a modern sporthotel. The path continues along the Oberalpstrasse until you turn right into the Via Disla. Continue along this road until you reach the hamlet of Disla.

Continue through the hamlet of Disla until you get to Madernal. From Madernal, a good foot path following the Rhine on the left leads you to Cumpadials. Cross the railway lines. A slight ascent leads you to Sumvitg. Where the residential area turns into open fields, you will find the clapboard tower of the family Amon-Bearth-Candinas. This house, constructed by the architects Bearth & Deplazes has four floors, which are all divided in the center in two long rooms. The house was built in the «Tafelbauweise» out of prefabricated, compact elements, so called «Rippenplatten».

The path continues along the Oberalpstrasse, direction Rabius, where you will come to a crossing leading to S. Benedetg (version A) and to Surrein. In Surrein the architect Werner Schmidt created the Atelier Simon Jacomet. An old sawmill was used as the foundation. Werner Schmidt put a new cube in the existing shelter and provided the northern facade with a glass front. Along the «Rein Anteriur» you will reach Trun, where your room is waiting for you.

In Trun you will see the Casa St. Martin. The architects Jakob Montalta and Urs Meyer renovated the building constructed in 1966 from 1997 to 1999. Today it is a nursing home with a contemporary care philosophy. The path leads you past the Casa Depuoz. From 2002 until 2003 the special school was renovated by the architects Paul Curschellas and Caroline Gasser. Thanks to a improved heating insulation and 120 square meters of sun collectors the casa Depuoz received the solar award in 2005.

Version A: Back at the mentioned crossing, turn to the left. There the path ascends slightly to the Val Mulinaun. By the passage passed the river turn to the right on the narrow foot path takes you to the chapel Sogn Benedetg. The architect Peter Zumthor created this unconventional chapel with its unusual design in 1988. Shingles of wood cover the chapel which with its design remind the visitors of a boat, an ark. Arrived at the village of Sogn Benedetg the path leads you through the Val Luven and the Val Rabius to Caltgadira which is a fraction of the commune Trun. From there the way to Trun is not far (additional altitude: 370 m)
