Tour description

This pleasant bike trail with only one real uphill stretch starts at Morat train station, from where you head westwards towards Faoug. A scenic cycle path, for the most part far from busy roads, crosses through fields and forests. After Faoug, the path continues along the western end of Lake Morat. Why not take a refreshing dip or enjoy a picnic on the wonderful sandy beach. After Salavau, the climb towards Bellerive and Vallamand-Dessus begins. At the highest point of the trail, the path continues towards Mur, Lugnorre and to the summit of Mont Vully. The effort will be well worth it – from here you can take in the breathtaking panoramic view of the Jura mountains, the three lakes of the Jura, the Grosse Moos (Grand Marais) and the Alps. Only a five-minute walk away are the reconstructed Remparts des Helvètes. From here, a steep descent follows, which will bring you down to Sugiez. After Sugiez train station the track joins the straight cycle path through the forest at Le Chablais until it reaches the quaint fishing village of Muntelier, from where you will continue until you reach your original starting point - Morat. A walk round this exquisitely preserved medieval town is a must!

Variants

Alternative A: Salavaux - Vallamand Dessous - Guévaux - Môtier - Praz - Nant - Sugiez
If you prefer a flatter route, you can go right in Salvaux towards Vallamand-Dessous and continue along the lake shore until you reach Sugiez. Note: this is not a cycle path.
Alternative B: Fancy visiting the Rotary Bridge? To get to this eye-catching wooden bridge built for Expo.02 (Swiss National Exhibition), turn left before Lugnorre towards Jorressant, then go right through the village which will take you to the cycle path that goes round Mont Vully. About halfway along, a cycle path goes left to the Rotary Bridge and “Les Trois Lacs” campsite on the La Broye canal.
Alternative C: If you prefer the lake over Morat old town, continue straight ahead at the Muntelier exit. This route will take you along the lake shore, offering a breath-taking view of the lake and Mont Vully.

Note(s)

A friendly word of advice: always walk in a clockwise direction!

Great care should be taken as the descent from Mont Vully to Sugiez is full of twists and turns. It is also very steep in places.
