Following existing hiking paths, the geology trail was created in cooperation with the NWW, UBN and WWF. Here you can learn about the geological and botanical characteristic of the Stanserhorn / Wirzweli region. Follow this trail through the canton’s largest natural art gallery.
The 19 signs posted along the route will tell you all about the area’s rock formations and point out some of the most attractive ones. You’ll also learn a lot about the earth beneath your feet. If you’re lucky, you’ll find a petrified piece of evidence linked to the ancient Panthalassic Ocean. The prehistoric rock masses visible on Mount Chli Horn are especially impressive.
The signs along the geology trail give insight into the geological foundation of the region, including its varied types of stone and their formation as well as the effects of erosion and petrification. The formation of the Alps is explained through concrete examples. In addition, the trail explains several aspects of earth and landscape history as it tries to explain how the area came to look as it does today.
Follow the yellow «Geoweg» signposts.
