This hike takes you up to the oldest mountain hut in the Saas Valley before you head back down by gondola lift. The trail starts at the final PostAuto bus station, leads past the roadside calvary, over the large bridge, and continues towards Saas-Almagell for approximately 200 metres. It then makes a sharp turn to the right just before the landfill and continues below the toboggan run and the gondola lift, before continuing along the slope and turning into a woodland path. At P. 2025, the route joins up with the summer trail, which follows a steep section along the rock face up to the mountain hut. After a quick break and a chance to take in the wonderful views, hikers continue for about half an hour to Plattjen Terminus mountain station, which offers spectacular views of the Saas Valley.
Make sure you factor in enough time and pay attention to the weather and snow conditions.
