This tour focuses on traditional Alpine farming at the edge of the Bernese cantonal border to the French-speaking part of Switzerland. Furthermore, it connects the village of Abländschen to the tourist destination Gstaad.
The tour starts in the village of Saanen with its narrow streets and lanes, lined with chalets and the Mauritius church from the 15th century. The first tour-section leads through the narrow “Grischbachtal” up to «Mittelbergpass» which marks the direct connection to the remote village of Abländschen. The village is dominated by the towering rocks of the popular «Gastlosen» popular amongst climbers.
Alpine farms, called « Vorschess », as well as high Alpine vegetation characterise the tour. In good weather, you get a good view over the “Freiburger”, the «Walliser» and the Bernese Alps. A beautiful view opens up over green meadows, traditional chalets and the Saanenland.
Version A: - family tour: Alternatively, you may take the dirt road by the mountain restaurant Rellerli via « rossi Vorschess» to Schönried. From there you use the bike trail from Schönried via Gruben to Saanen.
Good to know: The Grischbach road is closed in winter. There is a single trail from «Chaltläger» ending just before the Rellerli. Past the mountain restaurant Rellerli the first part of the singletrack descent is steep and technically demanding.
