The Gibidum reservoir is where the waters of the Great Aletsch Glacier are collected. This route runs close to the wall of the imposing dam.
Walk up from Riederalp to Riederfurka, which is the actual starting point of this hike. Following the signs for Knebelbrücke-Gibidum, hike along the well maintained path to the Rotbrüch turning. From here, the route becomes more demanding: a series of steep but easily walkable paths wind their way down towards the Gibidum reservoir. Cross the valley floor with a view of the dam before hiking up to Blatten on the other side.
Note: the hiking trail towards Gibidum branches off immediately to the right.
