On this 8.5 km-long walking trail around Lake Pérolles, you will discover the history of this lake as well as its diverse flora and fauna. For those with more scientific interests, interpretive panels provide a wealth of information of the lake’s geological and hydrological features.
The trail begins at the Obere Matte in Fribourg Old Town, from where you will walk up to the Loretto chapel, before continuing along the Breitfeld-Weg and the Botanischer Pfad (nature track) towards Marly. From there you will continue along the «chemin du Bois des Rittes» which will take you to the Pérolles bridge. Cross over the lower footbridge to arrive at Lake Pérolles. Follow the well-known «Schoch» and «Ritter» tracks to arrive back in the Old Town.
This fascinating and informative trail is a chance to discover this secluded green oasis in the heart of Fribourg city. It is sure to be a hit whether you are young or simply young at heart!
Alternative A: The trail can be shortened to around 30 minutes. Simply cross the Pérolles bridge to reach Fribourg city centre (bypassing the following two tracks – Sentier J. Schoch and Sentier Guillaume Ritter). Then take the funicular railway to the Old Town.
