The four-km Schwander Life Path is lined by thirteen carved wooden figures with reflective poems and quotes on life. The figures have been created in cooperation with the Brienz Woodcarving School.
The circular trail affords impressive views of Lake Brienz. The Life Path leads from Schwanden Gemeindehaus (municipal offices) to the Schonegg vantage point and barbecue spot and on to Schwanderbedli, a swimming pool in woodland and ideal for families. Benches along the trail offer the chance to take a break. The hiking trail is marked by 16 signposts, each with a carved bird.
The trail can be taken with an all-terrain children’s buggy (some uneven uphill sections).
Variante A: The walk from Brienz railway station to the start of the circular trail takes about 20 minutes and passes the impressive flood defences for the Glyssibach stream.
Brienz can be reached from Lucerne or Interlaken with the Zentralbahn (railway). There is a regular bus service to Schwanden from Brienz railway station (Unterschwanden bus stop).
By road: from Lucerne via the Brünig Pass. From Bern via the motorway and the A8 Autostrasse. At the Brienz exit take the road towards Brienz then follow the signs to Schwanden.
Free parking is available on Lamm in Schwanden at the «Gischterhittli» (waste collection house).
