The Diemtigtal valley is celebrated for its magnificent rural dwellings, and you can see some of the finest along the marked Diemtigtal House Trail. The details are particularly impressive: intricate carving, delicate paintings and elaborate compositions of form and colour that adorn the wooden façades underneath the massive roofs. The most beautiful homesteads are located at the entrance to the valley, around Diemtigen, and bear witness to an age when livestock farming brought great wealth. The houses are often widely scattered, a tradition that continues to this day - and which won the municipality of Diemtigen the Wakker Prize for architectural conservation in 1986. Visit in summer, when residents adorn their homes with window boxes, and their famously ornate gardens reveal all their flower-filled glory.
Besides the way through the anterior valley (Oey-Diemtigen-Oey) two additional theme paths lead through the central (Horboden - Rothbad - Horboden) and posterior (Zwischenflüh - Schwenden - Tiermatti) valley.
