The «Sentiero Smeraldo» (Emerald Trail) is a project of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) realised in co-operation with the office of tourism as part of Switzerland’s «Emerald Network». Its goal is to publicise and raise awareness about the Emerald species and habitats of Mendrisiotto – one of three places in the canton of Ticino richest in these rare and endangered species and habitats.
From Arogno you’ll have to overcome a few more metres of altitude before starting your descent (–519 metres) down to Lake Lugano. This hike, which features a view of the lake, is especially beautiful. Enjoy the boat ride to Lugano, where we expect you’ll want to spend some time looking around. Take the train back to Mendrisio.
