On this tour you can conquer a summit and enjoy magnificent panoramic views of the Great Aletsch Glacier, the Rhone Valley and the 4,000-metre peaks of Valais. Although sure-footedness is only required on the final part of the ascent to the peak of the Bettmerhorn, the track carved out of the rock is also well secured here with cables and wooden steps in parts.
Starting from Bettmeralp, follow the magnificent hiking trail past the Bettmersee lake and up to the Bettmerhorn mountain station in about two hours' walking time. Make the final ascent to the summit via the southern flank of the Bettmerhorn. The steep track branches off by the mountain restaurant. A good level of fitness and sure-footedness are essential for the climb, which takes about 30 minutes, though you'll certainly be rewarded at the top. Once there, you can take pleasure in your achievement and the stunning panoramic view before returning to the mountain station down the same track. The best route back to Bettmeralp is the hiking trail to Biel, which will lead you there in about 90 minutes.
If you haven't had enough of the breathtaking panoramic view on the Bettmerhorn, stay a little longer before riding the cable car in comfort back to Bettmeralp.
