In the past, this path was used by farmers to get water from the Triftalp to irrigate the pastures above Saas-Grund. It offers spectacular, uninterrupted views of the valley and the surrounding 4,000-metre peaks, and features numerous plant and insect species. The former dirt path has since been improved; unstable areas have been consolidated and secured using steel cables and iron steps.
The trail starts behind the Saas-Grund artificial ice rink, heads south and branches off to the left (facing uphill) above Gasse towards the Chilchwald forest. After a small section along the Suonen Trail near the Chilchwald forest, hikers climb a few metres in the Furwald forest and branch off to the left towards Eichballu. They then have to cross a well-secured rocky section to reach Predigtstuhl just below the Chrome, followed by the final section to the Triftalp.
The trail is not suitable for dogs or small children. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
Make sure you plan enough time for the hike and be sure to wear sturdy walking shoes and good outdoor clothing.
