Eastern Switzerland is internationally renowned for its textile heritage and expertise. The region is indeed a «textile country», shaped by the industry’s history and continually rejuvenated by its many successful textile enterprises. The textile industry’s influence can still be clearly seen in Eastern Switzerland – especially in the region’s architecture.
Roughly five kilometres long (walking time about 1-2 hours), the textile trail leads through St.Gallen and introduces you to magnificent buildings from the heyday of the industry. The tour begins at the Museum of History and Ethnology, at the Textile Museum or at the Tourist Office.
