Driving up the road from Biasca to Lucomagno, vistas of woods and fields unfold before your eyes. Near the pass there are several alpeggi in activity during the summer. The alpeggiatore can still find plenty of open land for his animals to graze on.
It forms part of the Sentiero Alto of the Valle di Blenio, which goes from Acquarossa to Acquacalda. Start walking briskly on the road from Camperio: after a while this road gives way to a path and after about an hour you’ll get to Monte d’Alpi di Gorda with an incredible 360 degree view. It takes another hour to get to Sorda and Piandios- with its alpeggio, and newly restored ski club-house where you can sample all the products of the alpeggio. The path then carries on to Alpe Pian Laghetto from where you get to Leontica. A bus takes you back to Camperio.
You could try doing the whole itinerary the other way round, starting from Leontica.
Formaggini, butter and buttermilk are all for sale at the ‘alpeggi.’
