The Muggio Valley lying between the slopes of Monte Generoso and Monte Bisbino is one of the most unspoilt, traditional areas in the Canton of Ticino. An interesting, somewhat challenging trail starts in Mendrisio and takes us into the heart of this, the southern-most valley in the Canton of Ticino with its charming hamlets and natural chestnut groves.
The itinerary includes the old bridge over the River Breggia, the mill in Bruzella, the small “del Gaggio” church, the Bonello and Bolla mountains with their “nevère” (ice-houses) and the rustic villages situated in the valley. The route also takes us into Italy and across the new bridge connecting the two enchanting villages at the end of the valley: Scudellate and Erbonne.
