We are strying in the Emilia-Romagna region on very flat lands, but we do change from the province of Piacenza to the provice of Parma , well known for Parma ham.
In Chiaravalle della Colomba, we will encounter a monastery with an abbey referred to in documents in 1136 for the first time. The buildings are well maintained, they can be visited and the monastery also offers bed and breakfast for pilgrims.
At our destination, Fidenza, the Cathedral Santo Donnino is a jewel among romanesque churches. You wouldn´t want to miss a visit there.
The «Via Francigena» is one of the 3 main christian pilgrimage trails of the Middle Ages, the main axis leading from Canterbury to Rome. This documentation currently covers the most frequented section from Lausanne to Rome.
