We now have really reached flat territories for quite a while, the plaine of the river «Po» welcomes us. This plaine hosts a large part of the Italian population. We now hike in the province named «Torino» of the Piemonte region. While we have been surrounded by impressive mountains the past days, we now pass between lakes. Shortly after Ivrea, we hike along the waterside of the «Lago Campagna», and our destination is quite close to the «Lago di Viverone», so we can now already plan for a beach party later this day.
The highlight of this day is the city gate of Piverone called «Torre Campagnaria» dating back to the 13th century, and then... the excursion to the beach of the «Lago di Viverone».
The «Via Francigena» is one of the 3 main christian pilgrimage trails of the Middle Ages, the main axis leading from Canterbury to Rome. This documentation currently covers the most frequented section from Lausanne to Rome.
