Tour description

For todays stage, we will have to evaluate 2 alternatives (see «Variants»).
Short after Jougne, we will cross a graveyard with the St. Maurice chapel (XIII - XIV century) and crypt (IX century), worth to be visited. Behind Echampés, we will leave France and enter Switzerland in its Waadt canton. Short after, in a forest, we will meet some 200 meters of a roman trail, one of the best conserved ones in Switzerland.
Following Les Clées (Castle, Panorama), the main trail carries us to Montcherand, where rare, romans frescoes can be seen in the church. In Orbe finally, the Notre Dame church, the castle (XIII century) and a luxurious villa close to the TCS camping place are worth to be visited.

Variant A: During wet wheather or close after, the trail through the Orbe canyons between Ballaigues and Les Clées is slippery. During such circumstances, we recommend to use Variant A across Lignerolles to Les Clées. The ones planning to proceed from there along Variant B needs to hike a few minutesfirst to the west, along the main trail passing by the castle.
Variant B: From Les Clées, we cross an old, roman bridge across the Orbe and hike some km to the south to Romainmôtier. This place is worth visiting not only because of its picturesque view, the well known church and an old abbey (V-XV century), but also because its easier to find good value accomodation here compared to Orbe.
