Today’s trail will take us once more through the lovely hills of the Siena province. We first get back to the railway track we left yesterday shortly before arrival, and will continue to follow that track southwards. The next place we encounter is named Buenconvento and is recommended by many pilgrims for spending a night.
After further 10km we reach the Poggio Gambocci, a hill with a name of his own. This is not evident when you count the number of hills around you. Once we are up there, we have as well reached the altitude of our destination, which is some 400 m.o.s. However, before getting to our destination, we will transit through a place named Torrenieri, which is lower as the profile shows, and then we cross the hill «Bellària», before finally reaching San Quirico D'Orcia.
The «Via Francigena» is one of the 3 main christian pilgrimage trails of the Middle Ages, the main axis leading from Canterbury to Rome. This documentation currently covers the most frequented section from Lausanne to Rome.
