The Educational Woodland Trail helps visitors to see the wood for the trees, providing knowledge that will increase their awareness and appreciation of the natural habitat. Information boards placed along the trail present facts about the wood’s numerous functions (recreational space, protection against natural hazards, habitat for wildlife, etc.), the various species of trees, shrubs and lichen that can be seen from the path, and the animals that inhabit these woods. As this trail is short and located predominantly in the shelter of the woods, it is also a good option for days with bad weather.
The themed trail starts on Furggstalden, which can be easily reached by cableway from Saas-Almagell. The trail leads past the quaint settlement of Furggstalden to the start of the woodland path. After the first hairpin bend in the path, the woodland trail turns right, passing directly underneath Furggstalden, and then meanders gently back down to Saas-Almagell. Postauto buses travelling in all directions leave from the village square in Saas-Almagell.
