This tour reveals the different aspects of the Thal Nature Park, starting with an ascent through the stunning, wildly romantic Wolf's Gorge and continuing over the lofty heights of the second Jura chain.
The hike starts 100 metres below the Wolfsschlucht PostBus stop (request stop). The Wolf's Gorge is a cantonal nature reserve and demonstrates the powerful forces of nature. Between high rock faces with some overhanging parts, the trail leads upwards through the narrow, wildly romantic gorge with its caves and eluviations.
At the end of the ascent, one leaves the Wolf's Gorge via a narrow passage. Traverse the stunning meadows of the Jura via Tannmatt to Mieschegg and on to Hinter Brandberg. Time and again, you will be delighted by superb views of the other side of the valley, where one of the largest continuous forested areas in Switzerland is located. The descent leads through a lynx reserve back into the valley to Welschenrohr.
Important: the Wolf's Gorge is closed in stormy weather.
