Tour description

One starts at the Einsiedeln railway station, pedals by the abbey church and arrives in Willerzell by way of the foremost Sihlsee bridge. Shortly after leaving the village one starts climbing. At first one travels on asphalt, then on foresters’ roads to the top of the Sattelegg pass. The red signposts with the yellow Swiss Mountainbikeland logo show you a way with a few more meters to climb than the classic Sattelegg route on the road. After a short downhill run from the top of the pass, you bear left onto a forest trail that takes you on the east side of the Rinderweidhorn upward to over 1200 meters above sea level. When you cross the Wägital Aa below the Flüebödeli, you are faced with the greatest challenge of the tour. Up to Rossweidhöchi and the cantonal border between Schwyz and Glarus you climb 804 m. You have to push the bike on the steepest and most technically difficult passages. These are the first few meters (below Kapelle Port) and the last few, shortly before reaching the top of the pass. Unfortunately the bike has not yet been invented on which one can surmount cattle fences and gates. From Schwändelen to the Niederurnen valley there are a number over which one must climb or that one must open. On both sides of the Rossweidhöchi one finds many cows. Once one is at the top, this is no longer a bother. Now one can enjoy the reward of the tour in the form of a 13-km long descent to Niederurnen. If you don’t want to ride only on gravel or asphalt, you can take one of the technically difficult hiking trails after the Bodenberg.
